Reader John Sanchez emails: "Just to let you know that, as the highest point for one hundred miles (until you reach the Catskills mountains), the Empire State Building gets hit by lightning hundreds of times a year (tens of thousands of times since 1931). The internal steel skeleton conducts the charge harmlessly to the ground. It's fun to watch it during a thunderstorm. Soon enough it'll get hit." And it must be as impressive every time!
